Teen Shot Dead, Marine Under Arrest
Jacksonville Police say they found the 19 year old with a gunshot wound to the head.

A Marine is accused of killing his civilian roommate in a shooting Wednesday night in Jacksonville.
Michael Smith has been charged with the murder of Joshua Thorkelson at their Bridgewater Court residence.
Police say the 19-year-old had an apparent gunshot to the head. He died at Onslow Memorial Hospital.
Detectives say Smith and the victim were in the kitchen area with several other friends when Thorkelson began showing people a handgun. Police say the gun was held by various people and eventually by Smith. A news release says Smith pointed the weapon at Thorkelson and fired the gun.
The 21-year-old Smith has been placed in the Onslow County jail with no bond.

A group of guys & a loaded gun is not a good mix. I can't help but think that alcohol was involved! US troops drink too much. This is a very sad situation for both families. I have a marine son, I will never stop worrying about him, he is young & thinks he knows it all! Our prayers are with the families!

This is not a judgement but a question. How can a trained marine accidently pull a trigger pointing it at someones head? I do not understand that.

What happened is a tragedy. What happened is very sad. I did not know Josh but I do know Michael. He truly is a good person and would never intentionally kill someone. What happened was an accident and unless you know both boys very well I don't think it is your place to judge. Michael already has enough grief on him that one of his friends has died let alone that he actually killed him. Let off of him and live your own life and let the law deal with it, even if the outcome is what you wanted.
