Authorities in Pitt County say they are very optimistic they will find the gunman responsible for shooting a man twice on Tuesday.

21-year-old Dante Jones was hit once in the hip and once in the thigh while standing at Matthew's Mobile Home Park.

Initial reports from deputies said Jones was shot up to four times.

Deputies say through their interviews Wednesday they have a partial name and description of the suspect.

Originally authorities said Jones had not cooperated with them, but says he later offered information.

Jones has since been released from the hospital.

Previous Story

Authorities have information about a suspect in an early Tuesday afternoon shooting where a man was hit twice with bullets. It happened at Matthew's Mobile Home Park on Augustus Street which is just outside of Farmville.

The Pitt County Sheriff's Office says witnesses gave them a description of the person who pulled the trigger at 21-year-old Dante Jones striking him in the hip and thigh.

Originally investigators believed Jones was shot four times.

Authorities say a motive is unclear, but say Jones was visiting family when he was shot. Another clue deputies believe might help them find the person responsible comes from another incident on nearby Stantonsburg Road.

After investigators left the crime scene, they had to break up an argument and say those men involved could help lead them to the shooter.

Authorities now says Jones is working with investigators in trying to find out who shot him. They said Tuesday the victim was not cooperating in the investigation.

A Pitt County Memorial Hospital spokeswoman says Jones has been discharged from the hospital, as of early Wednesday.

The Pitt County Sheriff's Office says it hasn't identified a suspect, but says interviews held Tuesday night with Jones' family could bring answers soon.
