A Greenville man is dead after a drive-by shooting in Martin County. Chief Darryl Knox of the Robersonville Police Department says the shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of West Green St. and Roberson St. in Robersonville.

Chief Knox says 21-year-old Curtis Sheppard of Greenville was fatally shot. An ambulance transported Sheppard to Martin General Hospital in Williamston, which is where he died.

Sheppard's family tells WITN News that they are distraught over his murder because they say he was a well liked man who came every day to visit his mother and grandmother. The picture the family provided WITN was taken when he was a teenager.

An autopsy shows Sheppard was shot in the upper leg and bled to death. Sheppard's death is the third murder in less than a month in Martin County, the second in seven days.

No one is in custody at this time, but Chief Knox says investigators are following leads on a suspect. The department is also investigating whether anyone was with Sheppard at the time of the shooting.
