The state says they've busted a local man for insurance fraud..
The North Carolina Department of Insurance says 35-year-old Phillip Raulerson of Grey Farm Rd. in Jamesville has been charged with one felony count of insurance fraud and three misdemeanor counts of forgery.
Lawmen say Raulerson is accused of forging the signatures of family members and using fake names on about 34 insurance policies between August 2008 and February 2009.
Lawmen say Raulerson collected commission on the fake policies while working for Combined Insurance Company of America.
The North Carolina Department of Insurance says Raulerson was booked under $10,000 unsecured bond. Martin County Sheriff's investigators assisted in the investigation.

Disgusted.I can empathasize, however it is the consumers responsibility to read through all the documents to ensure they are getting what they want and need. The vast majority of agents, mgrs and companies in the ins business conduct themselves well within the laws and the ins industry is very well regulated. As for the pressure to sell...the rep choose the field they are in and the company they represent...they also can choose to deal with any pressure put on them in a positive manner.Companies (& their mgrs) can not survive and profit without holding their sales people accountable for doing thier job.It is no different than anyother profession out there, if your not cutting the mustard then your going to be pressured to better perform and eventually terminated and someone else who can perform will replace you.Your right its about the numbers, as it is with all other businesses, if the numbers are not there the business fails and that is not good for anyone...including the customers.

I know for a FACT about the pressure Ins. Managers put on their sales managers & reps to sell the policy, no matter what!!! It has been a practice for YEARS! It's a NUMBERS game. DO NOT let those policies lapse!, the offic emanagers want their paychecks!!! they tell U that U are buying one thing and when U go to use it, it's something else entirely! I bought some policies to use for my grand kids education later on and now that I've paid on them for several years, I find that there will not B the kind of money that I need for them. I was led down the merry path as they say! We were done the same way with health ins from the smae co. several years ago. It's not just COMBINED Ins practices, it's ALL of them.

I find this interesting that people appear to be bashing the company and the industry, but forgetting that this individual basic insurance laws and that was his choice. It does not matter what or how the company pays its employees. What matters is that this person made a conscious decision to write what appears to be bogus applications...and that is a choice he made...I did not read anything in the article that suggested the company pressured him to write bogus apps to hit a quota or certain level of sales. The insurance industry is a vital part of the US economy, it is unfortunate that people stigmatize the industry so much. The industry is not evil, just as the majority of companies and agents out there are not bad. In fact, the industry is a savior to millions every year when personal catastrophy hits such as illness/accidents, deaths, fire, auto accident, floods, etc.
