The state says they've busted a local man for insurance fraud..
The North Carolina Department of Insurance says 35-year-old Phillip Raulerson of Grey Farm Rd. in Jamesville has been charged with one felony count of insurance fraud and three misdemeanor counts of forgery.
Lawmen say Raulerson is accused of forging the signatures of family members and using fake names on about 34 insurance policies between August 2008 and February 2009.
Lawmen say Raulerson collected commission on the fake policies while working for Combined Insurance Company of America.
The North Carolina Department of Insurance says Raulerson was booked under $10,000 unsecured bond. Martin County Sheriff's investigators assisted in the investigation.

To Lizaro -- The company COMBINED INSURANCE knew full well of this scam. Each application has to be signed off my a Territory Manager or Market Director. If these people are signing off on a policy, they know full well that the guy is selling far more policies to family members than is normal. That should have raised a Red Flag and they should have questioned it. The company looks the other way. I would say about 90% of the applications from ALL across the country are fraudulently written. The agents LIE on the applications -- that is Fraud. The Manager sign off on the applications. That is Fraud. There is a full-scale investigation being launched against Combined in several states. The agents, managers and directors will soon find themselves paying for years and years of fraudulent activity. Blatant Fraud is routinely reported to their JOKE of a "compliance" dept - but they do NOTHING! So -- state and criminal investigators are looking into alot of Combined's current FRAUD.
The new Enhanced Sales Model is the worse idea they ever had. While you no longer have to drive 100 miles to pick up a $10 check for a field renewal, you no longer get the commission for getting those checks. The only way you now can get paid is to sell something. It is strictly commission based now. You still have to go to an 8 a.m. meeting to sing songs and do PMA games. You are expected to have 15 appointments every day, and to canvass in between appointments. You can canvass for sales, or canvass for new appointments. The only way to sell anything is to move fast and be an obnoxious person who talks over and through every prospect. You have to close hard and overcome all their objections. The company teaches you “argument starters” that are meant to overcome their objections to you barging in announced and trying to sell them something they don’t want or need or cannot afford.
Disgusted.I can empathasize, however it is the consumers responsibility to read through all the documents to ensure they are getting what they want and need. The vast majority of agents, mgrs and companies in the ins business conduct themselves well within the laws and the ins industry is very well regulated. As for the pressure to sell...the rep choose the field they are in and the company they represent...they also can choose to deal with any pressure put on them in a positive manner.Companies (& their mgrs) can not survive and profit without holding their sales people accountable for doing thier job.It is no different than anyother profession out there, if your not cutting the mustard then your going to be pressured to better perform and eventually terminated and someone else who can perform will replace you.Your right its about the numbers, as it is with all other businesses, if the numbers are not there the business fails and that is not good for anyone...including the customers.
