Four people are facing underage alcohol charges after a 20-year-old was killed in a wreck earlier this month in Edgecombe County.

Killed was Edward Hill of Hobgood.

Alcohol Law Enforcement agents have charged Taha Hamad Ali of Aulander with selling beer to someone under 21. Ali worked at the Smart Stop convenience store in Scotland Neck.

Agents say 17-year-old Eric Lewis purchased the beer, and gave it to 18-year-old Timothy Whitehead. They say Whitehead then gave the beer to the car's driver, Demetrius Bess, also of Hodgood. The three teens face charges they either bought the beer, or possessed it.

Authorities say Hill was killed when Bess' car ran off of Fishing Creek Road on March 7th, overturned and struck a tree. Bess is already charged with felony death by motor vehicle and DWI.

ALE says the beer had a concentration of 11% alcohol, which is more than double the concentration of most standard beers.

Young blood makes bad decisions,BUT it a shame the decision they made caused a person to loose there life. We have ALL made life changing moves that we regret.haven't we?

I agree that it is incredibly selfish and stupid to drink and drive. While I will say that I hate anyone had to lose their life in this incident I hope that it opened the eyes of these boys. They will have to live with this incident for the rest of their lives and it should serve good purpose to remind them of the dangers that could follow. It does not say that the driver was intoxicated but I am sure that he was, or either well on his way. Combine that with youth, ignorance, and inexperience it is a wonder that no one else was killed! My thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased, I am sure they have alot of questions they need answered themselves.
