A Wilson County man is breaking records with his whopper of a watermelon.
When H.C. Williams put his watermelon on the scale at the State Farmer's Market he broke the previous record by one pound. His watermelon weighed in at 232 pounds. Williams won $1,000 dollars.
Williams says he grows big watermelons as a hobby and it took a lot of hard work to grow the record breaking watermelon. He says, "I need to check it ever day, take the leaves off of it. I usually spray it with fungicide and insecticide once a week."
Williams says he's spent around two hours a day, six days a week on the fruit since the end of April.
