"Truth & Hope" Tour Stops In The East

One organization traveling throughout the state for the second time this year to raise awareness of families struggling through the economy made a stop in the east Friday.

The "Truth and Hope" tour was in Greenville before heading to Goldsboro and Faison to hear the community's call for help.

Organizers say they want to hear the views of residents who are struggling to find work, housing, transportation and food. Melinda Lawrance, executive director of NC Justice Center says, "
We've learned the depths of the desperation and the amazing courage of the people who are struggling to raise their families, create a good life and be a part of the community with no resources, no support and no infrastructure."

Last year North Carolina's poverty rate was nearly 18 percent. Officials say it hasn't been that high since 1981.

Organizers of the "Truth and Hope" tour plan to have two more tours throughout the state later this year.

Groups organizing the tour are: North Carolina NAACP, UNC Center on Poverty, Work and Opportunity, NC Justice Center, Institute for Civic Engagement and Social Change at North Carolina Central University, and AARP of NC.

U know after reading these comments my heart hurts. I defended this country in the US Army for 8 long years. Yes I have had some hardships in my life and am not on my feet like I should be. There is alot of us that are not looking for handouts but a chance to make a better life for ourselves and our children's lives. Its not easy going to social service and get foodstamps because you have to sit pride aside and allow them to pry into your personal lives. I pray I teach my children to have more heart than some of you.

It is time to start calling the democrat party the communist party.  Now  they believe women deserve free birth control and want to control the lunch you pack for your child.

The Daily Reflector article says that 40 people traveled here and a dozen locals showed up. Seems like a waste of time and gas. Who pays for this group to travel aound the state?

No need to blame it all on the Incompetent Communist. The Socialist-hijacked party that fooled the voters into putting him in our White House caused almost all of the problems we have. The Republicans have been thoroughly infiltrated by Taliban-like religious nuts and aren't the answer either. We need a Viable third party,

What is the purpose of this group? Anyone can see the poverty of almost 20% and the struggle of 50% more in NC. We don't need to be told of "truth and hope". We already know it. The "truth" is that the US is in serious trouble and the "hope" is that people who actually care and will do something to get us employment will be elected into office. It can't be soon enough. This group is just another waste of resources. We don't need talk, we need action!

Truth is, too many people are having too many babies that they can't afford to feed. (so the government has to pay the bill)...and the Hope is that people will realize this problem and DO SOMETHING about it.
