COLD CASH: Traffic Violation Leads To $308,000 In SUV

A traffic violation Thursday led lawmen to the discovery of some $308,000 in cash.

Wayne County deputies say the SUV was stopped on Hare Road. After getting permission from the driver to search the vehicle, deputies found two trash bags full of money inside the rear passenger area.

A drug dog was then brought in to check for possible drug ties to the cash, which came back positive. The money was packaged in vacuum sealed bags.

Police say the driver, Apolinar Ancelmo of Stantonburg, denies owning the money. The loot was seized and deputies say charges are pending against Ancelmo.

I agree and disagree with some of the comments posted, so here's my take on it. Yes, we have lost or given up almost all real freedoms in this country that the founding fathers wrote into the constitution to keep a government monarchy out of our lives. The sad fact is that now, so many of our alleged "citizens" are dumb, uproductive, dirtbags that a form of dictatorship appears almost necessary to prevent total anarchy. It is almost impossible to engage in any type of social or political discussion now because the vast majority of people only want to sit in front of a TV in total comfort (including being high on something or another) while the few remaining working people suffer. "We" pay one whole segment of the population to sit at home and breed, while at the same time we have been invaded by another population of foreigners from the south. Instead of sitting in front of your TVs day and night, go to a library or bookstore and pick up something from the current events section and read it. Some peole know what's going on and the background behind it. Join them. A Ron Paul vote would be a good suggestion too.

Biscuit I agree, What freedom do we have left in this country, They tax your pay check, tax you when you spend it, there're a tax on everything. Think about it , everything.Somebody gives you money, there's a gift tax, inherit money they tax it, you own something, they tax it, and if you don't pay your taxes they come and take it from you and sell it for the tax you owe. We are free to vote, wake up and go to sleep, but if you don't pay your taxes ,you won't have anywhere to do that.Sell drugs and don't pay your taxes on your profit they get you for tax evasion. Not quite sure I understand that one ? You're right, there's no freedom left in the great U S of A. For over 50 years our Goverment "war on drugs" has failed. There's not one spot in this country that you can't fine drugs right now..Not that I'm going to vote for him ,but Ron Paul has got it right , give freedom back to american's, if that what someone wants to do do, let them have the right. And like everything else, let the goverment control it,(not that I think we need more gov. control) and make the profits instead of the drug cartels.Look at the money they would save, trying to stop something, that it very clear they can't stop, and the taxes they would generate.I'm not a drug user myself and think those folks need help, butI do think we're going about this the wrong way.Our leader need to wake up.

Well... That's one way to get tax payers money back from supporting illegals! Before you all jump my back on this one, I realize that nothing in this article says that the man was hispanic or that he was illegal, I'm assuming! :)

The cops were doing their job. Not their fault that the law allows money to be confiscated. But the fact is, it's insane that just because you have a large amount of cash in your vehicle it can legally be seized and you have to prove it's yours before you get it back. Think we live in a free country? Nope. Let's say I want to buy a boat down in Florida for 100,000.00 and the guy says he'll only take cash. So I pull the money out of the bank and drive down to Florida to buy the boat. On the way I get stopped for speeding and the cop asks me if I have any weapons or large amounts of money in the car. "Yep", I say. So it gets seized. It's insane.

Money tested positive for drugs? you got to be kidding me,and this or to much money is a reason to lock the guy up. What's he guilty of ? Ho yea, what ever happen to innoncence until proven guilty ? What's have they proven? And can somebody please tell me how this is keeping me safe.Once again, our lawenforcement has gotten out of hand.

This is not a crime. Traces of cocaine show up on 4 out of 5 bills in circulation and there is nothing wrong with driving around with money in your vehicle. I imagine the cops saw some hispanic males and immediately asked to search the vehicle. Too bad they probably did not realize their right to refuse and demand a search warrant - or they probably did not realize it was illegal to drive around with cash in their vehicle.

308 seems like an odd amount, why not just 300? or was it more like 325, and someone pocketed some money? i think someone needs to pay attention to the future purchases of the responding officers. or the immediate debt pay off of the same officers
