A man authorities think robbed one bank in the east after workers at another local bank foiled his efforts is under arrest after police caught up with him on the other side of the state.
Brian Lancaster was arrested at a motel in Asheville around 3:00 a.m. Wednesday. As of Thursday morning, jail records show that Lancaster is back in Halifax County now.
Lancaster is accused of robbing the Southern Bank and Trust on East 10th Street in Roanoke Rapids, and attempting to hold up the Heritage Bank in Fremont in Wayne County last Tuesday.
Lawmen say a bank robbery this morning is connected to an attempted bank robbery that happened Tuesday three counties away.
The Southern Bank & Trust Co. branch on East 10th Street in Roanoke Rapids was held up around 10:40 a.m.
The gunman pointed a gun at employees. He is described as a white man, wearing a dark hoodie and a ski cap.
Yesterday a man tried to rob the Heritage Bank in Fremont in Wayne County just after lunch. Chief Paul Moats tells WITN that after comparing photographs they say the same man robbed the bank today in Roanoke Rapids.
Moats says the man is wearing the same hooded sweatshirt in both surveillance photos. He says his department is now working with Roanoke Rapids police on the two cases.

In the Fremont case, police say the man tried to get into the bank through a locked door. Bank employees foiled the attempt by activating additional security measures.
