Law enforcement in three eastern North Carolina counties say a tip led them to a suspected meth trafficker where they found a pound of the drug worth $45,000 in his car.

Ranferi Hernandez was pulled over Friday in Duplin County . That's when deputies say they found the meth and charged him with three counts of drug trafficking.

The sheriffs in Duplin, Lenoir, and Wayne counties got a tip and pulled Hernandez over in Faison in Duplin County. Duplin County Sheriff Blake Wallace says that large amount of methamphetamine leads them to believe it was not meant for personal use, which is why Hernandez faces drug trafficking charges.

"It won't get in the hands of our young folks, and anytime you can prevent that from happening its been a good day, but this represents a significant drug operation in eastern North Carolina and hopefully we made a dent in that," said Sheriff Wallace

Hernandez remains in jail under a $500,000 bond. He also faces additional felonies for having the drugs and paraphernalia in a vehicle. His next court date is set for April 19th .
