Police said a routine security check turned into an exchange of gunfire.
Just before 1A.M. on Friday, Wilson Police said they got a call of a suspicious man with a weapon lurking around 320 Daniel Street. Investigators said once officers arrived, they spotted a man fitting that description and told him to show his hands immediately.
The man turned, took out his gun, and fired at four officers. One officer returned fire, and the suspect took off running. Police soon found that suspect, asleep in an apartment located on Rountree Street.
Police said Ed Lee Edwards III is now facing four counts of attempted first degree murder. Edwards is in the Wilson County Detention Center under a $1,000,000 secured bond.
Police said one officer has been placed on administrative duty, which is a standard procedure after an officer involved shooting.
