On the third Friday of every September, the nation recognizes the prisoners of war (POW) and missing in action (MIA) service members who have yet to come home.

Two local services are scheduled for Friday in observance of the special day.

In Jacksonville, the Onslow County Rolling Thunder chapter is hosting a ceremony at the Vietnam Veteran's memorial at 6:30 p.m. The Rolling Thunder ceremony will include words from guest speaker, retired Chief Warrant Officer Guy Hunter. Hunter was a POW, or prisoner of war, during Desert Storm.

At Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, a ceremony begins at 4 p.m. Friday at the Heritage Park. The guest speaker at the base's ceremony is also a retired service member who was a prisoner of war, retired Army Lietenant Colonel Ray Schrump.
