Kinston Woman Sentenced For Federal Drug Crimes

Takyra Kitchens was sentenced to seven years in prison for the crime of distributing and possessing with the intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin. The 27 year old from Kinston was sentenced Monday, along with Kevin Nalls of New Jersey.

Federal officials say they learned in January 2010 that Nalls was bringing large amounts of heroin from New Jersey to Lenoir and Wayne Counties. Both Nalls and Kitchens were arrested in January 2011 after agents found 118 grams of heroin in a hotel room that Nalls had rented. Agents found another 62 grams of heroin in a mobile home that Kitchens had rented. Officials say the two were using the home as a "stash house" to hide heroin.

Several agencies from the local, state and federal levels assisted in the case, including the Drug Enforcement Administration, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office, the Jones County Sheriff’s Office, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office and the Greenville Police Department. Special Assistant United States Attorney Glenn Perry was the assigned Prosecutor. Perry is a prosecutor with the Pitt County District Attorney’s Office.
