There is an Excessive Heat Warning until 8 pm for areas along and east of Highway 17.
There is a Heat Advisory for the rest of the viewing area until 8pm.
Temperatures this afternoon will reach the upper 90s with the heat index ranging between 105°-115°.
Along with the dangerous heat, a few storms will be possible as a front approaches from the northwest.
Any storm that does form will have the potential to become strong to severe.
The main threats with any storm that does form will be strong gusty winds, heavy rain, and frequent lightning.
The intense heat will continue into Saturday with highs in the middle 90s. Cloud cover and thunderstorm activity will increase over the weekend and that should cool temperatures slightly.
During this intense heat you should drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned environment and check on relatives and elderly neighbors.
After a one day break, the heat will be back on across Eastern Carolina Thursday.
A heat advisory will be in effect from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. as heat indexes, or the "feels-like" temperatures reach up to 109 degrees.
The heat advisory is for all of Eastern Carolina on Thursday.
