A Goldsboro man is facing a second degree rape charge from a crime lawmen say happened the day after he was released from prison.
The Goldsboro Police Department says 30-year-old Stephen Williams of John St. in Goldsboro is charged with one count of second degree rape. Police say a 21 year old woman told detectives that William sexually assaulted her while she was alseep at a home on the 1000 block of N. Center St. in Goldsboro. Police say the two are acquaintances.
Police say the crime was reported to them on February 11. Williams was released from prison on February 10 after serving a sentence for a conviction of habitual felon. Williams is also on the North Carolina Sex Offender Registry. The crime listed on his registry is the attempted abduction of children, which he was convicted of in 2001 in Wayne County. His criminal record also shows convictions for breaking and entering into vehicles.
Williams was scheduled to have a first court appearance on the new sex crime charge on Tuesday afternoon. His bondwas set at $200,000.
