Teenagers gathering at the Elm City library to take advantage of its free Internet are apparently doing more than accessing web sites.
The Wilson Times reports that teenagers have been using the library and adjacent buildings as a makeshift restroom. As a result, the library is shutting down Internet access after it closes every day.
Town Council member Melvin Cooke said the problem has been going on for a few months. Cooke said there are a couple of stores beside the library where Elm City children hang out after the library closes. He said the stores are side-by-side, and their recessed entrances give the kids some cover.
Cooke said adults and children come to the area because they can take advantage of the Wi-fi hotspot 24 hours a day.
