NEW INFO: Final Suspect In Greene County Murder Arrested

The fourth and final suspect in a murder case in Greene County is now behind bars.

Greene County Sheriff Lemmie Smith says 23-year-old Terrance Melton was arrested by the SBI and the US Marshals Monday evening. Authorities found him on Siesta Ln off Strickland Road in Walstonburg.

Sheriff Smith says Melton is charged with the murder of Linwood Jones, who was gunned down in Hookerton on April 24.

Melton has been a fugitive since late June, according to Sheriff Smith. He's being held without bond ahead of his first appearance scheduled for Thursday.

In addition to Melton, Derajay Speede, Jeremy Hinnant and Daquan Hines are charged in the murder.

There has been a third arrest in the murder of a Hookerton man that happened back in April.

Sheriff Lemmie Smith says Daquan Hines turned himself in Wednesday morning around 10:00 a.m.

Hines and three others are accused in the shooting death of Linwood Jones. The 49-year-old Jones was killed outside his home at 214 William Hooker Drive.

Previously, Jeremy Hinnant and Derajay Speed, both of Goldsboro, have been charged in the case.

Smith says they continue to search for 23-year-old Terrance Melton of Snow Hill.

Hines was jailed without bond.

Two more people are wanted for the murder of a man outside his Greene County home in April, while there has been another arrest.

Sheriff Lemmie Smith says Jeremy Hinnant of Goldsboro was arrested last Thursday for the murder of Linwood Jones. Already, Derajay Speed of Goldsboro had been charged in the man's murder.

Smith says they are also looking for two more men in connection with the shooting death. Murder warrants have been issued to 23-year-old Terrance Melton of Snow Hill, and 20-year-old Daquan Hines of Goldsboro.

Anyone with information of the whereabouts of Melton or Hines should call deputies at 252-747-3411.

A teenager from Goldsboro has been charged with the murder last week of a Greene County man.

Derajay Speede was arrested Monday morning on a charge of murder.

Speede is accused of killing 49-year-old Linwood Jones outside his Hookerton home.

Sheriff Lemmie Smith says Jones was outside with three friends last Saturday when a car pulled up, and two men got out. An argument began and Jones took off running, cutting through someone's yard.

According to Smith, the two men chased Jones on foot and opened fire. Jones was hit and collapsed on the back steps of 213 N. 7th Street.

The 17-year-old is being held without bond.

A man was shot to death near a home in Hookerton after an argument gone wrong.

Greene County Sheriff Lemmie Smith said the shooting started Thursday night at the victim's home on 214 William Hooker Drive in Hookerton.

Smith said 49-year-old Linwood Jones was outside with three friends when a car pulled up, and two men got out. An argument began and Jones took off running, cutting through someone's yard.

According to Smith, the two men chased Jones on foot and opened fire. Jones was hit and collapsed on the back steps of 213 N. 7th Street.

Smith said the two men got back in their white vehicle and took off.

The two other men with Jones were unharmed. No word on a motive yet.

Jones leaves behind a mother.

Smith said his deputies were called to the home at 213 N. 7th Street around 9:45 Thursday night.

He said two men were arguing with two other men. When one of them turned to run away, he was shot and killed. The victim has been identified as Linwood Jones, 49.

Sheriff Smith said they are looking for two suspects. They may be in a white car, possibly a Chevy Impala.
