DEPUTIES: Man Leaves ID Card Behind After Trying To Cash Stolen Check

A man who deputies say stole checks from a middle school guidance counselor got so flustered trying to cash a forged check that he ran out and left his own identification card behind.

Dantoine Harris of Goldsboro is charged with felony breaking and entering, breaking and entering a motor vehicle, forgery of instrument, uttering forged instrument and misdemeanor larceny.

Wayne County deputies say on May 15th the guidance counselor at Brogden Middle School reported her vehicle had been broken into with checks and other items stolen.

Deputies quickly learned that someone tried to cash one of those checks at the State Employee's Credit Union in Goldsboro.

Lawmen says Harris was not only caught on security camera at both the school and inside the credit union, but they also had his ID card.

The 32-year-old Harris was jailed on a $76,000 secured bond.
