NEW INFO: Police Identify Body Found In Wilson

Police have released the name of a man found dead in Wilson last week.

They say 51-year-old Dewey Futch Sr., whose last known address was in Zebulon, was a suspect in a breaking and entering of a business on Airport Boulevard NW in Wilson on January 23.

Officers responding to the break-in say they tried to stop a vehicle leaving the parking lot, but the driver took off. Officers gave chase and found the empty vehicle a short distance away. They searched but didn't find the driver.

The investigation then led them to get warrants for Futch, including breaking and entering and assault with a deadly weapon on a government official.

January 24, authorities went back to the area to search for possible evidence when they found the body.

An autopsy was done last week. Police say Futch died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.

Police are waiting on autopsy results from a man's body found in Wilson Tuesday afternoon.

Police tell WITN they found the remains while searching for evidence from a breaking and entering case at a store about a mile away.

They say no connections can be made at this time between the crime and the body.

They report more information will be released once the autopsy results are complete, an identification has been made and the family has been notified.
