The Wayne County Sheriff's Office says the body of a teenager has been recovered at Busco Beach outside of Goldsboro after a drowning.
Busco Beach and ATV Park is a recreational riding facility and manmade beach in Goldsboro. This is the third drowning in as many years at the private beach.
The call came in around 6:45 p.m. Sunday that a teenager may have drowned.
The victim has been identified as 14-year-old Darnel Cooper of Raleigh.
Deputies say three teens were seen struggling in the water. One of the three was rescued, another made it to shore on their own, but the third teen went under.
Cooper's body was recovered around 7:45 a.m. this morning.
In June 2010, 44-year-old Michael Gardner of Rocky Mount drowned at the same beach. No lifeguards were on duty at the time. A man from Courtland, Virginia, 31-year-old Samuel Turner, died at Busco Beach in May 2011.
In 2011, the owner of Busco Beach told WITN he did not intend to hire lifeguards because there was no way to patrol two miles of shoreline. According to the Busco Beach website, a new owner took over in 2012.
