Child Struck By Car In Front Yard, Charges Pending Against Teen Driver

A 9-year-old girl was seriously injured after police say she was struck by a car while in her front yard.

Rita Hamidi is in serious condition at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in the pediatric intensive care unit.

Wilson police say it happened around 6:00 p.m. Tuesday on Lear Court. They say the 16-year-old driver, Donald Bridgers, was turning onto Lear Court and was unable to make the turn. His vehicle came into the child's yard, hit her, a mailbox and a utility electrical box.

Police say charges are pending against the teen and that speed was a factor in the crash.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Rita and her family. I also pray that the teen driver learns a great lesson from this, and becomes a better driver. May God touch these children and heal them both.
