NEW INFO: Man Killed In Industrial Accident

Wilson police now have identified the worker killed Thursday afternoon in an industrial accident.

They says Tony Ballow of Mount Olive died after he became trapped in a production machine at Peninsula Packaging Company on Wilco Boulevard.

The 44-year-old worker died at the scene. Police say the accident happened around 2:20 p.m.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the workplace fatality.

Wilson police say emergency personnel were called to Peninsula Packaging Company on Wilco Boulevard around 2:20 p.m. Thursday.

The employee died at the scene.

The company and police are working with the North Carolina Industrial Commission and OSHA on this workplace fatality. Police say they are not releasing the name of the victim until their family is notified.

    So sad. I had a friend die working for UPS, way back in the early '70's. He fell onto a conveyer belt that was breaking down boxes. People who work in plants/factories have to deal with danger every working day. My condolences to his family.

    This is indeed a tragedy, we send our deepest sympathy to all family members, co workers and friends of the deceased employee. Industral work is often extremely dangerous and Safety must be a vital part of all companies programs.
