Puppies Eat Toes Of Bedridden Woman; Daughter Charged

Police say puppies ate the toes off of a bedridden woman and now her daughter is charged with abusing her.

Latrina Monroe of Central Heights Road in Goldsboro was charged Thursday with abuse of a disabled adult causing serious injury.

Police say the mother was bedridden and that puppies in the house ate her toes. The puppies have been confiscated and are at the Wayne County Animal Shelter.

Police say they began investigating after Monroe's mother was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital by rescue workers on Wednesday. Police did not say exactly how the woman was injured.

The 23-year-old Monroe was jailed on a $25,000 bond.

Don't blame it on the dogs. They apparently were just as neglected as the person victimized by them. This woman should have to give up her dealers before serving her time.

I am sure that are alot of good caregivers out there. But the girl had been gone, is she living off her moms SSI. I am sorry, if you don't know what to do, ASK. Its as simple as that. Don't pretend, this is where things go terribly wrong. I cannot feel sorry for the girl but her Mom has a thoughts in my prayers. Was there any other family/friends within the community that "should" of seen something.

To Anonymous on Feb 14, 2010 at 05:10 PM , I can gladly show you similar scars and marks produced by a lab, and a friend missing two fingers from a basset hound bite. All you have proven is that you're too ignorant to realize that it is ANY dog that is capable of attacking, not just specific breeds. They were bred to be loyal, and to be able to be seperated in a fight without biting handlers. No dog "turns" they are triggered to attack whether you meant to or not. Some simple NON-BIASED research would lead you to learnign all about dogs in general, and that they really do all share the same traits. And that 90% of the "facts" out there were the same ones used against dobi's and rott's years ago. I'm guessing that if you had been attacked by a lab it would be a "freak accident" but being that it was a pit it was a viscious mauling right? As I said, I've been around pit's for all of my 27 years with no incedent. I think I have a little more experience with the breed than you.

To Anonymous on Feb 13 at 11:08. How dare you decide how much someone knows about a pitbull. I would love to meet you and show you what a 'loving family member' a pitbull can be. I would then pull up my shirt and show you all the scars that sweet, wonderful breed left all over my torso and neck. Yeah, learn something before I comment? I just taught you something you are too ignorant to understand yourself. Pitbulls are not pets. They were NEVER meant to be. They were bred to fight and you never know when they will turn on you. This was a 'family' pet that was treated very well. What do you have to say now? Yeah...How about YOU educate yourself before speaking or get attacked by one and lets hear how you feel. Im around to talk about it. How about get in touch with a Mom that lost a child that was attacked. Your type would blame the child no doubt.

@ Anonymous on Feb 13, 2010 at 03:13 PM, My family has had pit bulls for many years, even my grandmother had one for as long as I can remember up until about three years ago, at the age of 91 she just isn't up for getting a new pup. We've never had a pit bite anyone or cause a problem of any sort. The Chesapeke Bay REtreiver bit someone once, and the Labs we've had have caused a stir or two. But you are obviously ignorant to any side of the Pit Bull that isn't media portrayal. You know, Petey from The Little Rascals never bit Alfalfa or Spanky. And the first dog to ever receive a medal of honor for military service was a pit. Even today there are many pits used as drug dogs and search and rescue dogs. Yet they will not use them for K-9 unit police dogs. Not because they are unpredictable or viscious, but because (in the words of more than one trainer that has tried) "they are just too people friendly" Learn about something before you condemn it. Please.

I think we all need a little more information here. I mean did the puppies chew the toes off and this lady sat there in this condition for hours? days? weeks? I personally don't think the daughter wanted this to happen, although the dogs should have been better looked after. If she wanted to wack her mom I'm sure there are easier ways that just letting the dogs eat her....come on people. Who cares what type of dog did this....all dogs are capable of it!!!!! My heart goes out to the family.

Never look down on a person unless you're trying to pick them up. Following the aforementioned simple rule will take you far in life.

The owners of dogs that offend should be punished as though the owner committed the offense. I would not want a Pit Bull as a pet for my family.

I have a pitbull pup and he is very gentle and loveable. It's not the breed, it's the people that raise them to be mean and thats with any breed of dog. This story is about a woman who was obvioulsy not caring for her disabled mother.
