Goldsboro Man Murdered New Year's Morning

Goldsboro police are investigating their first murder of the new year.

Police say around 3:20 p.m. they went to the 400 block of Woodrow Street after people reported hearing gunshots. At 415 Wilson Street they found the body of Larry Mathis. Police say the 34-year-old Goldsboro man apparently died from a gunshot wound.

So far no one has been arrested. Anyone with information should contact Crimestoppers at 910-735-2255.

    like others have posted, i still rite till this present day understand why someone would take his life!! donnell was the kind of guy to always keep in your corner no matter what!! my nineth grade year he became my first love! he always took up 4 me and did not allow one single female to get in my way!! thank u donnell 4 always having my back, no one has done that 4 me till this day!! "a dream" ill see u again someday!

    I still can't believe that Larry is gone. He was truly a nice man and would give you the shirt off his back. I hope and pray that they find the coward or coward(s) that took away someones son, brother, father, friend, cousin, uncle away. No matter what a person did, where they were at or who they were with NO ONE deserves to be murdered!! This senseless killing needs to stop!

    I really don't get any understanding out of this situation. He was a nice guy. No we did not hang all the time, but he still was a down to earth kind of guy and I really do think someone know more than people are pretending too. People really need to have some heart and get some balls and start talking cuz he do have a family, that they will never see his face again.

    we send our deepest sympthy to the family...we know Larry and he works at my son school,always polite and sweet,he will be missed.....i hope GPD do there best to find out who did this and hope people will call in with tips....cause he is someones son,brother,father,and friend. stay strong and stay prayed up...God bless you.

    Larry Mathis, or as my friends and I call him "Mr. Larry," was a very kind man, he was so nice to us, he was nice to everyone, he didn't deserve this, he derserved to see what happens this year,what doesn't happen, everything. Ican't believe this
