Three people have been nabbed after deputies say they were throwing rocks at oncoming vehicles. One of those arrested is accused of breaking out his own windshield, in an attempt to divert suspicion away from him.
Wayne County deputies have charged Kimball Gwaltney, Thomas Herring, and David Metcalf, all from Pikeville, with injury to personal property and false report to a police station.
Authorities say on Saturday night they received complaints that several vehicles driving along Highway 117 North were damaged after large rocks were thrown at their windshields.
Deputies say the trio are accused of throwing the rocks from a moving vehicle. Investigators say one of the suspects even broke out his own windshield, filing a police report in an attempt to divert attention away them.
All three were released under a $2,000 bond.
