Laid-Off Wilson County Man, Wife Win $1 Million

An unemployed Wilson County man and his wife are $1 million richer, after making a big win in the North Carolina Education Lottery.

Ricky and Regina Whitaker of Stantonsburg bought the lucky ticket on Tuesday, the first day of the new "$200 Million Extravaganza" game. They bought the $20 ticket at the Stantonsburg Friendly Mart on Moyton Drive.

The million dollar ticket was actually the couple's second winning ticket. Their first ticket won them $25 so they decided to use their winnings and try their luck again.

The couple will receive 20 annual payments of $50,000, less taxes. They've already received their first check of $34,006.40.

Congrats!!! Glad to hear U R going to put some of your kids thru college! After taxes, if it is doled out in increments like they said, they will have approx $2,500 to $3,000. per month. If he has no job now and can't find one, that's not a lot of money folks. Let's be happy that they can keep a roof over their heads and the lights on!! It's the best $20.00 investment I have ever heard of!! By the way, what's the difference in them bying a lottery ticket than people that R unemployed and (as U stated) "living off the gov" smoking, drinking and bying junk food to munch on. Don't throw stones if ya live ina glass house. U may find yourself in the same situation one day. I'm just sayin'!!

To those that portrayed the winners of the million dollar lottery as deadbeats that live off the government, they are hard-working people who were done on their luck. His plant closed and she was still hard at work with the US Postal service. You don't need to judge when you don't know the facts. This was a true blessing to these fine people!

this is for larry, this man worked at a kinsotn company for 20 years, he had good insurance and benefits but the company chose to relocate to grensboro and become union. he was given a generous layoff package and the company gave the employees money to help with insurance for the 1st year. the unemployment he is getting paid is money the company paid in for him and the other employees that are layed. don't mean to be rude but if you don't know the facts, keep your mouth shut

Unemployed? Why? There are signs all around "help wanted" People do not want a job, they want a position. Mc Donald's, Hardee's etc. I'm glad they won but they still need gainful employment. $34,000 devided by 12 is less than $3,000 a/month. Housing, health care, transportation .....not much left for food and fun. Be responsible after the party.
