Counterfeit Tax Office Check Cashed

Someone is passing counterfeit checks from a county tax office here in the East.

Wayne County deputies says last Sunday the man bought a rod and a reel at the EZ Mart of Highway 117 South with a counterfeit check.

The check appeared to be from the Wayne County Tax Office. The man also received $208.37 in change.

Deputies released a surveillance photo of the man with hopes someone would recognize him. He is described as 5'11" to 6'2" in height, weighs 200-220 pounds, medium complexion and is between 35 and 40 years old.

Deputies warn cashiers that they should always see a drivers licensee when cashing a check, and to write down that license number on the back of the check.

Anyone who knows who the man is should call the Wayne County Sheriff's Office at 919-731-1480.
