Smithfield Packing: Wilson Plant Workers Reject Union

Workers at a Smithfield Packing Co. bacon plant have voted against joining a union that recently won an election at the company's largest hog slaughterhouse 90 miles away.

The company said Thursday that employees at its Wilson plant voted 338-181 on Wednesday against joining the United Food and Commercial Workers union. A union spokeswoman confirmed the result.

In December, employees at Smithfield Packing's massive 4,500-worker hog processing plant in nearby Tar Heel voted to join the union after a 16-year dispute.

Wednesday's vote came two months after parent company Smithfield Foods, based in Smithfield, Va., said an overall slump in the meat industry forced it to cut 1,800 jobs and close six factories, including one in Elon.

This to DAVE, why would you say every illegal is "Mexican", mayby you should look at all the Russins, Dominicans,Cubans and so on. Plus It was the Americans who brough the Mexican here illegally for slave wages or only to have them deported so they did not have to pay. I know of 100's of farms, construction, and so on that have this practice. So before you single out the Mexican, check out your fact. By the way I am as White as white can be, but I hate racist and finger pointing with out all the facts, as a matter of fact, the white race is now the Minority, and you can thank our forefathers for this.

VERY smart decision. It is about time that the avergage working man and woman recognize they are NOT represented by unions. Unions have destroyed every industry they have ever touched and cost blue collar workers millions of jobs. Recently the AFL-CIO said they supported legalizing illegal Mexican immigrants. All 20-30 million of them. At a time the American worker is struggling and the union, that claims to support the "working man", says bring in 30,000,000 people to take these jobs at reduced wages. They know the American worker is seeing how the unions are looking out for the unions leaders, and nothing else. The illegals will probably vote for the union.

It's "been a long time since we had a president who said unions are a good thing," said White House hopeful Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) at an AFL-CIO presidential forum, back in May of 2007 a stop in a day with three New Jersey fund-raisers and endorsements from two New Jersey mayors. Now workers at a Smithfield Packing Co. bacon plant have voted against joining a union that recently won an election at the company's largest hog slaughterhouse. What are these workers thinking. Going against the chosen ones " Obama's " idealistic socialist policies. Obama might take the plant over and federalize it,and install only Government union workers. Obama wants to unionize all American Workers he wants a big middle class. The workers class his socialist utopia.
