A tornado watch for Eastern Carolina has ended.
Gusty winds are expected through 4:45 p.m.
Sustained westerly and northwesterly winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour with a few gusts up to 45 miles per hour will be possible. The front should be off the coast through 5:00 p.m.
Forecasters says winds of this magnitude can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. A few downed trees are also possible.
Once the front settles in, it is going to get cold in Eastern Carolina. Temperatures are expected to drop to around freezing Tuesday night. Freeze watches or warnings may eventually be needed.
A tornado watch for Beaufort, Bertie, Chowan, Craven, Gates, Hertford, Jones, Northampton, Onslow, Pasquotank and Perquimans counties was lifted at 1:30 p.m. Other counties to the west already were removed from the watch area as the front pushed eastward.
