Wilson County lawmen have made an arrest in the murder of Roberta Ann Lindsey Fulghum. Her body was found on July 29, 2008 on the 5900 block of Green Pond Rd.
31-year-old Richard Wayne Sauls of 5011 Boswellville Rd., Wilson is charged with Fulghum's murder. The Wilson County Sheriff's Office arrested Sauls Tuesday morning.
Wilson County Sheriff Wayne Gay said the forensic evidence collected at the scene was "instrumental" in the arrest of Sauls.
"While I’m sure this is a sad day for the Sauls family, it enables the Lindsey family the opportunity to bring some closure to the brutal and senseless murder of their loved one," Gay said in a press release.
Two weeks after the body was discovered, Wilson County lawmen said they had a person of interest in the Fulghum murder case. Deputies said they were looking for a person who drove a small red pickup truck in the Highway 301 area south of Wilson, or in areas of known prostitution in Eastern Carolina. Authorities say that person was not considered a suspect in Fulghum's death, but as a person of interest.
It is not clear if Sauls is the person lawmen wanted to interview.
