A reward is being offered for information about an arsonist.
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is investigating two fires at the same home on Brentwood Drive in Dudley.
The first happened February 6 just after 6 a.m. Lawmen say someone inside the home saw orange flames at the front door and heard a popping sound. The person who spotted the flames and other family members were able to get her disabled mother out of the home. The fire department put out the blaze, which caused an estimated damage of $1500.
The second case happened this week. A person reported a fire under a carport at the same home. Someone driving by called 911 and was able to put out most of the flames. No one was home at the time of this fire. The damage was estimated at $1100 in the second fire.
"I am authorizing a $1,000.00 reward to anyone providing information leading to the arrest of the persons responsible for the setting of these fires," said Sheriff C. A. Winders. "Whoever the culprit is has no respect for human life or the consequences of their actions. This home was occupied by three ladies ranging from 50 years of age to 80 years of age, one of them handicapped! These victims are respectable people and there is no way any of them have done anything to deserve this type of retaliation or revenge."
Sheriff Winders also states that there has been some written threats recovered pertaining to these fires but to protect the integrity of the investigation would not divulge the content of the threats.
Anyone having information pertaining to the cases call the Wayne County Sheriff's Office at 919-731-1481 or Wayne County Crimestoppers at 919-735-2255.
