A Wilson man was sentenced in federal court in Raleigh Tuesday to eight years in prison on drug and gun charges.
Willard Junior Alston, 32, was also sentenced to five years supervised release following his prison term.
In May 2008, a federal grand jury indicted Alston. In November, he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine, as well as possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Officials say the case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods which encourages federal, state, and local agencies to cooperate in a unified “team effort” against gun crime, targeting repeat offenders who continually plague their communities.
