Withers 'Disappointed' After Not Getting UNC Job

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina interim coach Everett Withers says he's talked with Ohio State about joining Urban Meyer's staff.

Withers said Wednesday he's "disappointed" that he isn't the permanent choice to lead the UNC football program. But he said coaches "learn to move on fast," adding that nothing is official with Ohio State yet but it's "working that way."

North Carolina athletic director Bubba Cunningham interviewed Withers before hiring Larry Fedora from Southern Mississippi. That leaves Withers and his staff to prepare for the Dec. 26 game against Missouri in the Independence Bowl knowing it's their last at UNC.

Withers took over when the school fired Butch Davis before the season amid an NCAA investigation into the program. Withers led the Tar Heels (7-5) to a fourth straight bowl game.

From one shady head coach in Butch to another...OSU really learned their lesson with Tressel, way to make sure that cheating will continue:)

Under the circumstances,i think Withers did a good job with UNC team .7-5 is pretty good in todays football world.Just as good as NC State did.He might have won more if things had gone his way. He is a better coach than Fedora.

I am a life long UNC fan and I am ticked off about the way the past 2 coaches have been treated. Just punishing the people involved should have been good enough but they had to listen to all of the UNC bashers who wanted to blame the coaches, faculty and eveybody who has ever gone to UNC or pulls for UNC. My advice in the future is if you have any issues you need to do what you think is right and forget what everybody else says. Fire Thorp
