CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina isn't letting a linebacker dismissed from the team last fall return for next week's pro day.
Ebele Okakpu was hoping to work out for NFL scouts at North Carolina next week, especially after three players involved in an NCAA investigation of the program were allowed to return for last year's pro day.
Okakpu was dismissed for conduct detrimental to the team.
But there's a new coach, a new athletic director and an intense desire for the school to distance itself from the past 21 months of turmoil amid the NCAA probe.
Okakpu says he didn't violate any NCAA rules and wants the chance to participate. But athletic director Bubba Cunningham says new coach Larry Fedora "is trying to establish a sense of accountability within the team."
