UNC Trustees Approve 7-Year Deal For Fedora

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina's board of trustees has approved a 7-year contract for new football coach Larry Fedora.

Trustees met for about 30 minutes Friday morning to approve the deal, which will pay more than $1.7 million annually. The deal includes several bonuses, including for winning a division or conference championship, reaching a BCS bowl and high graduation rates. The deal also includes annual retention bonuses ranging from $100,000 to $350,000 beginning in 2015.

The school has scheduled Fedora's first news conference for Friday afternoon.

Fedora had spent four seasons at Southern Mississippi, leading the No. 22 Golden Eagles to the Conference USA championship.

Fedora is the permanent replacement for Butch Davis, who was fired shortly before the season after an NCAA investigation into improper benefits and academic misconduct in the program.

They had to get someone, and after Texas A&M decided they didn't want him, he knew he had to jump on next offer, funny, all the Tarhole people I know were saying that Boise St coach was going to be the next hire, lol, guess he didn't want any part of a rebuilding program and with all the sanctions coming, knew he was a better school, even with a blue field.

Should have kept Davis.Maybe he did something wrong?Maybe he did not know what was going on? I Do know he was building a powerhouse program at UNC: UNC will curse the day thety hired Federa.

Paying players, coach that was an agent, offering players easy A's and people to do their school work, 9 major violations, single handed ruined the "carolina way"...wouldn't exactly say he did an awesome job!
