CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina will hold P.J. Hairston and Leslie McDonald out of Friday night's exhibition game against UNC Pembroke due to NCAA eligibility concerns.
University officials have been conferring with the NCAA about Hairston after authorities twice cited him during the offseason while driving a rental car linked to a felon, raising the possibility of a violation for receiving improper benefits.
North Carolina hasn't specified McDonald's issue, though the school had to send a letter this summer ordering a company that makes designer mouth guards to stop using McDonald on a website promoting its brand.
The university has already announced sophomore J.P. Tokoto would sit out for the No. 12 Tar Heels after failing to file the proper paperwork before playing two games in a certified summer league in Milwaukee.
