Troubled UNC Housekeeping Services Gets New Leader

A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will take over as head of the school's troubled Housekeeping Services later this month.

The Herald-Sun of Durham reported that Darius Dixon will take over the department April 23, months after a consultant's report that found housekeepers believe they are treated unfairly and face retaliation from managers when they complain.

Dixon has been the deputy assistant director of housekeeping at N.C. State University since 2009. He's scheduled to begin work at UNC on April 23.

James Holman is a university housekeeper and chairman of the Employee Forum's staff relations policy and practice committee. He says an overwhelming majority of housekeepers favored Dixon after viewing recordings of interviews of Dixon and two other finalists.
