Trooper Who Missed Body In Wrecked Car Now Suspended

A state trooper who didn't see a woman's body inside a wrecked car last month is off the job for now.

Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Pam Walker says Trooper Marlon Williams was suspended without pay as of today.

Carolyn Watkin's body was found three days later in a wrecker lot after her vehicle was towed from the March 29th accident near Smithfield.

The Johnston County district attorney told state officials last week they would not be pressing charges against the trooper.

An autopsy showed the 62-year-old woman had head and neck trauma and most likely died in the accident.

Williams, who has been a trooper for nine years, was placed on administrative duty after the accident.
