UPDATE: No Charges In Student's Death

Police say they will not press charges against a teacher who hit a teen with his car, killing the student.

The News and Observer of Raleigh says 51-year-old Robert Ken Lee will not be charged in the death of 18-year-old Jorge Chavarria. Police said the death was an accident that had nothing to do with the driver.

Previous Story:
A Wake County high school student has died a day after he was struck by a car driven by a teacher at his school.

18-year-old Jorge Chavarria died at a hospital in Raleigh at around 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

Chavarria was a junior at Fuquay-Varina High School student. Authorities say he was crossing the street in front of the school at around 7 a.m. Wednesday when he was hit by a car driven by 51-year-old Robert Ken Lee.

Lee teaches career and technical education at Fuquay-Varina. He has not been cited in the accident, and state records show he does not have a history of traffic infractions.

Principal Edward McFarland says the school has assembled a crisis team to help students cope with the accident.

It's hard losing a loved one but it's even harder around the Holidays. May God bring peace to all the family and friends of this young man. Also prayers to the teacher and his family as well. Nobody knows the pain someone has to endure when they innocently take the life of another person. I pray for strength, courage and comfort to everyone involved!

My heart goes out to this student's family. I hope I never have to deal with the loss of a child, and that I never have to know what that pain is. I am also praying for the teacher invovled, as well. As a teacher myself I cannot imagine how he must be feeling.
