RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State men’s basketball coach Mark Gottfried has announced the signing of 6-4, 194 pound guard Desmond Lee during the spring signing period. Lee will be part of the Pack’s 2013 recruiting class, which is already ranked in the top-20 nationally by many publications, and will have two seasons to play for the Wolfpack starting this fall.
“We are really excited to add Desmond,” said Gottfried. “He is a true combo guard who can play off the ball and is very good with the ball in his hands.
“We love how he shoots and he will add an additional three-point shooter for us. He brings high character to our program and it was important to add another upperclassman with the maturity that Desmond possesses.”
Lee comes to the Pack after spending the last two seasons at New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, N.M., where he averaged 20.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game for coach James Miller this past season. His scoring average was the fifth-best in the JUCO ranks.
Lee helped the program finish the year 27-7 and earned second-team All-American honors on the junior college level.
The native of Norfolk, Va., led New Mexico J.C. to the national tournament in Hutchinson, Kan., where the team lost in heartbreaking fashion, 88-87, in overtime to the eventual champion Northwest Florida State. Lee had 23 points, 11 rebounds and three assists in his final junior college game.
