O'Brien, Withers Trading Jabs For Rivalry Game

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina State coach Tom O'Brien and North Carolina interim coach Everett Withers have added a little spice to this week's rivalry game.

Withers went on a radio show this week and said UNC is the state's "flagship" university and pointed out the Tar Heels' graduation rates are higher than the Wolfpack's.

Asked about the comments Thursday, O'Brien defended program's academic work and took jabs at UNC's recent NCAA trouble with improper benefits and academic misconduct.

O'Brien called Withers "a guy on a football staff that ends up in Indianapolis," a reference to the school's appearance before the NCAA infractions committee last week. He also called the list of UNC's troubles "a triple play as far as the NCAA goes."

Withers is scheduled to talk with reporters Thursday afternoon.
