North Carolina Tops Virginia 28-17, Moves To 3-0

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- Bryn Renner threw two touchdown passes and Ryan Houston ran for two scores Saturday to help North Carolina beat Virginia 28-17.

Giovani Bernard ran for 102 yards to lead a strong ground attack for the Tar Heels (3-0, 1-0), who won their first Atlantic Coast Conference opener in 11 years. Dwight Jones and Jheranie Boyd each had TD catches as the UNC offense put together an efficient and relatively mistake-free afternoon.

A week after committing five turnovers against Rutgers, the Tar Heels committed just one -- though that fumbled snap near the goal line early in the fourth quarter came after they led 28-10.

Virginia (2-1, 0-1) moved the football, but the Cavaliers repeatedly squandered opportunities in the first half that could've made this a different game. Instead, they managed only a 41-yard touchdown catch by Max Milien in the third quarter and a 4-yard keeper by Michael Rocco with 5:09 left.

Well sooner or later they will have to leave cheater hill and play on the road. We will see how good they are then. Did you see the place yesterday, looked like a ghost town, empty seats everywhere. Wine and cheese crowd, liberals don't like getting wet.

The NCAA is a joke. They punish who they want and look the other way when Auburn buys a QB and a national championship. No SEC school would face real punishment for the same things. The student athetes who comitted these infractions were punished by the university. The thing that most dont know is that the kids still stayed in school. The problem is agents being around kids. My son is going to UNC and im very proud of him. I have always been a tarheel fan but i would still be proud of him if he went to Duke. The only thing that students that go to UNC,students that go to ECU and students that go to NC STATE have in common..............they all applied to UNC

See that's where you're wrong David, I graduated from ECU and ECU was the only school I applied to because that's where I wanted to go to school. Congrats to your son and best of luck to him, but please don't make false assumptions about people. Several friends of mine went to NCSteak and they didn't apply to UNC either; engineering. As for the SEC, you're absolutely right, just look at the SC QB Garcia who has been arrested/suspended 5 times but doesn't miss a single minute due to suspension. Also look at the UNC player who was suspended for several games last year but simply redshirted thus voiding the suspension entirely, how is that fair? He gets a whole year back and doesn't miss a game. I am interested to hear what the NCAA has to say now that their review of UNC is done.

As diehard of a pirate as I am, I'd rather see UNC beat ECU than for that stupid Barack Obama get office again in 2012. That saying GO PIRATES!

UNC = 3-0, ECU = 0-2. MMMMMMM wonder how that can be ?? Oh, that's right,ECU is 2-0 in the "moral" column. That's all it takes to get you in a bowl game.

The Tarheels received VERY BAD news this week from the NCAA... the stuff from the past year is minor in comparison. You don't have to believe me, that is quite OK. But just wait. The UNC-CHeat program is looking at DECADES long devastation and embarassment. "The Carolina Way" will forever be tarnished. Again, believe me or not (I'm fine with you disbelieving me), but there is terror inside the halls of power in CHeater Hill. A close friend of mine who grew up down east and works inside the Athletic Dept. states; "panic is an understatement", "this bad news is epic". Doubt me now, but mark my words, you CHeaters better enjoy 2011 because it is going to get UGLY. Tick-tock... the CHeaters are about to feel the NCAA rock.

ECU may be 0-2 but they played the #11 and #12 ranked teams in the nation and who did UNC play any ranked teams? I'm sure if UNC played SC and Vt back to back their record would be 1-2

yeah kinda true about irrelevant in football but kings in basketball!!! i think thats why everybody taking it out on them in football!! "MAYBE" a little jealous over the basketball and probably mosy of the negative towards the football is coming from the fans of the school in the east!!! after all they dont have much of a basketball program!! im not hating im hoping the school from the east turns their basketball program around!!!! i live here in the east and it would be nice to have a local school to be not only good in football and baseball but have a good basketball program too!!!
