NC State AD: Game Means More to ECU

NC State University Athletic Director Debbie Yow said on a radio show Friday afternoon, when her school plays East Carolina University, it means more to ECU. Yow was a guest Friday on The David Glenn Show on Pirate Radio 1250am and 930am when she made the statement.

Yow was just named Athletic Director in June this year. She says she was not present for the scheduling of games with ECU and then dropped a bomb about NC State's performance against ECU. "The game means more to ECU than it does to NC State. So we're always going to be at a disadvantage when we play the game, just psychologically," said Yow on the radio show.

You can hear the full comment from Pirate Radio 1250am and 930am by clicking on the link above.
She says NC State has 2 more games scheduled against ECU in 2013 and 2016, so she will not have to think about scheduling another ECU game until around 2015.

This whole argument is a joke. Play anyone, anytime, anywhere to gain respect in the football community. Own your conference and respect will follow you. ECU is not there yet and neither is NCSU, although, both NCSU and Carolina think they are better then they really are. Yow! You are not a powerhouse. Save your cockiness and looking down the nose to the Pirates for someone who cares. We are 6-10 over the last 10 games and your butt is getting a little sore. That's the real issue. Oh, and did you have a psychological advantage over the nationally ranked Pirates at Carter Finley a few years ago? Bet you didn't mind that win only because you came out on top. I am a believer you earn respect by being good. And good to me is not just a bowl team. Three D-1 wins, and Three, 1 AA wins is not impressive to me. I think all schools should be at least 6 D-1 teams for a trip to a bowl. I get tired of looking at decent records only to find 40% of your wins were cupcake teams. Big deal!

For me, it's just hard for me to pull for any ACC teams other than UVA (where my dad went to law school after his ECU days), Va Tech (where I have 2 cousins that went there), and Clemson (highly respectable). Too much disrespect and underestimating toward ECU from those schools up in the triangle. I'm raised about 30 minutes from ECU and was set on ECU and only ECU the whole time I was in high school. Grew up liking both ECU and UVA, but mainly ECU!

ECU/NCSUFan: If the FSU running back had not hit their quarterback on YOUR 4 yardline, you guys would have lost the game, so how can you talk about being focused. Before that fumble, the players on your team bench looked like they were all experiencing labor pains from the looks of agony on their faces. You are lucky to be in the top 25, but after the Clemson Tigers beat you, that will be the last trip to the top 25. Can't wait to hear what your AD will say after the game !!

I just grew up being a NCSU fan because I liked the school as a whole! Also, be aware many of the so called ECU fateful are loyal Tarheel or Blue Devil fans. It doesn't mean they jumped on the bandwagon. I was accepted to NCSU and have loved to have attended there but at the time, due to finances, I had to stay at home and commute to ECU. Both universities are great and we are blessed to have several great universities in our state. I will continue to pull for both teams and when they play each other I will set back and enjoy great plays from both teams.

If playing ECU doesn't mean as much to state then why did we have to play on neutral territory (panthers stadium)!! It's a rival game, even state fans know that. If it was not a rival game then why do state fans get mad and pout after they loose...... Way to make a public sore loser statement debbie!!

Well, she's right. State students and alumni have a lot more on their minds than the ECU game: like cow manure and how to wash their white socks sparkly clean.

Hey Tug! We all know State pads their non-conference schedule. That is the only way they can guarantee to be bowl eligible when the season ends. Future opponents: Liberty, Presbyterian, need I say more.
