A Brunswick County sheriff's deputy is on paid leave as state investigators probe why he shot two people after being called to help in a domestic dispute.
Brunswick County Sheriff John Ingram's office says the shooting happened Monday night at a mobile home near Leland.
Deputies say they found 43-year-old Cassey Thomas trying to stab her husband, 48-year-old Timothy Thomas.
The deputies say the woman ignored their orders to drop her knife.
Sheriff's Sgt. Brian Tully fired two shots, hitting Cassie Thomas in the abdomen and Timothy Thomas in the upper right leg.
Timothy Thomas also suffered a stab wound to his upper back.
The sheriff's office says none of the injuries are considered to be life threatening.
Tully is on leave while state agents investigate.
