It's Colossal Collard Day!

The State Farmers Market is celebrating a staple of the Southern diet with a special day.

Colossal Collard Day is scheduled for Friday at the market's restaurant. Patrons will be provided with samples of cooked collards and hushpuppies as well as a variety of relishes and chow-chows.

For those who want to whip up their own batch of collards, visitors can purchase fresh, locally grown collard greens and pick up free recipes, serving tips and nutritional information.

The event is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.

As much as I like southern home cooking, collards have got to be one of the most disgusting foods I've ever ate.
