A family seriously injured last year on a North Carolina State Fair ride is suing its operators and owners.
Attorney Willie Gary said Thursday he's seeking at least $25,000 in compensatory damages and punitive damages for the people injured on the Vortex, a ride known for its twirls and flips.
Anthony Gorham, Kisha Gorham, their 14-year-old son and a niece were tossed off the Vortex in October when the machine suddenly lurched into motion as they were trying to get off.
The family says it has incurred massive medical expenses as a result of their injuries.
Company officials didn't immediately return messages Thursday.
A criminal investigation found a safety mechanism designed to keep the Vortex from moving had been disabled. The ride's operator and owner are also facing assault charges.
