NEW INFO: Truck Driver Faces Charges In Fatal Bike Crash

The truck driver who collided with a man on a bike will face charges.

The victim was the head of North Carolina's mental health division. Police say 49-year-old Steven Jordan was riding his bike Wednesday along U.S. 401 when he was hit.

Troopers say the truck driver, 28-year-old Clifton Ellis Jr., faces charges of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision.

The director of the state mental health division died after a crash on his bike with a tractor trailer.

Steven Jordan, 49, was killed in Raleigh Wednesday afternoon according to Raleigh police. Jordan was the director of the division of mental health, developmental disabilities and substance abuse services for the state Department of Health and Human Services.

Police say Jordan and an unloaded logging truck collided around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Louisburg and Perry Creek Roads in Raleigh. Both the bike and the truck were in the northbound in the far right lane of Louisburg Road when the collision occurred.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

The accident is under investigation. Police say findings of the investigation will be presented to the Wake County District Attorney's Office to determine if charges will be filed.
