Dead Alligator, Lizards Found In Home Of Man Charged With Selling Drugs

Police say they found several dead animals, including an alligator, two snakes and two lizards, at the home of a Garner man charged with selling drugs.

Court records obtained by The News & Observer of Raleigh accuse 31-year-old Kelvin Leroy Dunston of killing the animals by not feeding them.

Police say they found the dead alligator and lizards inside separate aquariums and two dead pit bulls were found chained to a tree. One dead snake was in a box, and another in a drawer.

Dunston was charged Friday with eight county of felony animal cruelty and a felony drug charge.

He remains in the Wake County jail. It wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney.

i think that all states need to impose much more severe penalties for animal cruelty cases, and also be more proactive in preventing such sad events before they get this far. Where were the neighbors, why did'nt anyone call animal control? I agree, this "individual" SHOULD be put in a cell and starved.

Now NC needs to let him starve in his jail cell!

It sounds like they forgot to mention the fact the alligator is a protected species in NC which carries a heavier penalty for keeping without proper permits.

I am so glad they charged him with felony animal cruelty. So many people take for granted the way they treat animals. He should be punished severely!!
