A Washington newspaper says Clay Aiken is considering a run for congress this year.
The Washington Blade cites unnamed sources as saying the Raleigh native is "actively considering" a bid for North Carolina's 2nd District.
That seat in Congress is currently held by Republican Renee Ellmers, who beat Bob Etheridge in 2010.
Aiken, who was the American Idol runner-up in 2003, has released six albums. In 2008, he publicly said he was gay.
The Blade says Aiken has met with Democratic pollsters and operatives in the Raleigh area to gauge support for a possible run for office.
