Mother Of Tortured Girl Arrested

The mother of a 4-year-old North Carolina girl who authorities say was tortured by her mom's boyfriend before she died has been arrested.

Multiple media outlets reported that 27-year-old Helen Reyes of Raleigh was charged Thursday with negligent child abuse causing serious bodily injury.

The arrest warrant says Reyes knew Teghan Skiba had been abused previously and still left her daughter in the care of 21-year-old Jonathan Richardson while she went to military training in New Mexico.

Investigators say the child had suffered cuts, lacerations, bite marks, head trauma and sexual assault injuries before she died July 19.

Richardson is charged with first-degree murder.

It takes a village. We must look after our young'uns. All of our young'uns. I have had to report kids who had scratch marks and bruises. Kids can get scratches and bruises often, but repeatedly? I had to report them. I didn't feel good about doing it, what if I was wrong? But it had to be done for the safety of the child. It was worth my pride and ego for the safety of a child. Mark 9:42 "But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in ME to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung on his neck, and he were thrown into the sea." I wouldn't want the one to be judged for these actions! Vengeance is mine saith the Lord, I will repay!

Women don't need to be in the military while their boyfriends stay home to watch the kids.

youre right--either they do that or the opposite, 'get' parents who actually are good people that take care of their kids. dss is overloaded, underfunded and understaffed. probably bc all the money is going to people who take advantage of the system, people who need their kids taken away bc theyre terrible parents who sit around and smoke weed.

To Ed Said: So you think Ed Clay went overboard? God forbid your child (or children close to you) should ever be molested, I would hope that someone would feel a moral responsibility to report them. If I saw your child being molested, hurt or harmed in any way I would intervene and call the police.

Ever called DSS about a child you are worried about? They almost accuse you of trying to "get" the parents, and tell you that if you don't have concrete, physical evidence they don't have time to look into it. I guess a dead child is finally enough evidence.

Time is running out for our state law makers to pass strict and harsh laws for those people that abuse our children. Those of you that are concerned about our children please flood your state law makers office with your e-mails requesting that they purposes and pass laws to protect our children.

Posted by: Ed Said....Your lame advice is not correct. Neighbors/family/friends should ALWAYS speak to authority/rescue a young child from abuses, if seen and known about. Yep, no obligation, but what about humanitarian obligation? Guess we cannot count on YOU for help. Oh, and hope you are never in a position where YOU cannot speak for yourself and need help. Think carefully about what you have posted.

How could a mother put her child in that situation knowing there would be abuse??? If someone so much as looks at my kids wrong I'm ready to pounce them (i'm not that bad but you get the picture). I can't even imagine how that poor baby felt. My heart goes out to Teghan.

You know, nothing seems to amaze me anymore. The truth is people are continuing to get more sick in the head by the day. This case completely sickens me!! It is really hard to understand how can people do these kinds of things. This child or NO child deserves this treatment. There has got to be some way we can protect our inoccent children better than this.

Ed Clay, I think you're going overboard. close friends can't be held isn't within their rights to interfere. I agree they SHOULD HAVE spoken up...but they DON'T have the obligation to do so. What if YOU were under the microscope?
